Become a Master Water Steward in 2015! Master Water Stewards build projects in their community that protect water quality and work to educate their neighbors on clean water issues. Past certified Stewards have installed rain gardens, rain barrels, cisterns and water permeable walkways that catch polluted rainwater before it makes it to a nearby lake or stream. Living Table UCC is collecting donations to fill Christmas stockings for children at St. Anne’s Battered Women’s Shelter. There is a box for donations at the church (3805 40th Street East). Most children at the shelter are preschool age, though there are also elementary and high school students.
Longfellow Community Council in partnership with Hennepin County is looking for creative volunteers to help develop a comprehensive public art plan and long-term maintenance strategy for streetscaping improvement along the Minnehaha corridor. This project will stretch from Lake Street to 46th street along Minnehaha Avenue with the construction beginning April of 2015 and wrapping up November 2016. A unique public art and streetscaping campaign along the Minnehaha corridor can increase our community’s sense of place and identity. The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board (MPRB) is creating a new plan for all the parks south of downtown and east of I-35W. This part of the park system is called the South Service Area, and it features 33 park properties. They will be examining all assets, making a vision for the parks overall and an improvement plan for each individual park. To complete this project they are seeking citizens to serve on the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). To apply to serve on the CAC or for more information about the project visit here.
