 Sign Up for LCC’s Resource Fair!
LCC’s Annual Membership Meeting No Pie Charts! Only Pies! will be held on Tuesday, April 25th at Minnehaha Academy North, 3100 West River Parkway, from 6:30-8:30pm. Once again, we will host a Resource Fair from 5:30-6:30pm. This year, we ask participating organizations to give a suggested donation of $20/nonprofits and $25/for-profits. If interested, please fill out this form here and pay via Square to complete your registration. There are a limited number of organizations we can accommodate, so register soon to ensure your spot is reserved! The deadline is Sunday, April 16th. For questions, email melanie@longfellow.org.

Join the LCC Board of Directors

LCC will elect its new Board of Directors at No Pie Charts! Only Pies! on Tuesday, April 25th. There are several open seats on the board. All levels of experience are welcomed. You need only an interest in the community, to live in the Longfellow, Cooper, Howe or Hiawatha neighborhood and a commitment to participate in meetings a few hours a month to participate on the Board. LCC also has an open seat for a business owner or designated representative of the business. Board members meet monthly to review funding requests, respond to emerging needs of the community and plan for future events, activities and programs. Baby Storytime @ East Lake Library, 2727 E Lake St, 11:15-11:45am. For children from birth to 24 months and their parent or caregiver. Talk, sing, read, write and play together in a format designed especially for babies. Share books, stories, rhymes, music and movement.

Teen LGBTQ+ Club @ East Lake Library, 2727 E Lake St, 3:30-4:30pm. Hang out, play games, make art and meet friends in a welcoming space for teens of all identities.

Let’s Get Social: Creative Journaling @ Junket: Tossed and Found, 4049 Minnehaha Ave, 5:30-7pm. This class is $5, and will provide access to a broad variety of ethically sourced (entirely secondhand) creative supplies and materials, as well as the option to purchase and incorporate other items from the shop’s regular inventory. To RSVP, click here.

 

Saturday, March 25th

Art in Color @ Squirrel Haus Arts, 3450 Snelling Ave, 7-9pm. Featuring work by Grant King and Darren Hill, this exhibition celebrates color and vibrancy, emphasizing the power color can bring to the canvas. The show will run from March 25th to April 1st. For details, click here.

 

Turn Grief Into Poetry @ East Lake Library, 2727 E Lake St, 1-2:30pm. Work through your feelings from a loss or grief through writing poetry. Learn writing prompts and exercises. Collaborator: The Loft Literary Center. Funded by Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

 

Rich Lewis Band Trio and Tim Belden @ Merlins Rest, 3601 E Lake St, 8:30pm. The Rich Lewis Band plays a soulful mix of R&B, New Orleans and Motown. This blend of musical styles creates an infectious sound that makes you want to stomp your feet or shed a tear.

Transition Longfellow Family Game Night @ Bethany Lutheran, 3901 36th Ave S, 6:30-8pm. Have some fun and get to know your neighbors! Bring your favorite games or come and share in games others have brought. This social event is open to all ages! This event is free; bring snacks to share if you wish.

 Lary May Introduces The Wanderers @ The Trylon, 3258 Minnehaha Ave, 3pm. (1979, DCP, 112m) dir Philip Kaufman w/Ken Wahl, Karen Allen, John Friedrich. This brilliant coming-of-age film takes place in a 1950s New York City gangland. Behind all the bravado, the film is both heartfelt and despairing. U of M professor emeritus Lary May will introduce the screening.

 Open Mind Storytime @ Moon Palace Books, 3260 Minnehaha Ave, noon. Join Moon Palace Books for a storytime celebrating books on the theme of gender identity. This event is hosted by Laura Bradley Rede. Readers will include David J. Schwartz, Avery Eli, Jason Yarusso, Jay Owen Eisenberg, Kathy Lee, Patrick Gambill-Read, and Mike Huber.  March Reuse Drive: Art Glass @ Junket: Tossed and Found, 4049 Minnehaha Ave, 1-4pm. If you’ve been to Junket, you’ve probably noticed Chris Miller‘s gorgeous glass-on-glass mosaic windows and light boxes. Unfortunately, due to nationwide plant closures and suspended colors, there is now a shortage of art glass. Junket is collecting art glass of all shapes, sizes and colors for Chris Miller, who will be at the shop to accept art glass items as well as educate folks on what types of glass can be used for projects and what cannot.  Practice Writing @ East Lake Library, 2727 E Lake St, 2-3:30pm. Practice writing in a supportive community setting. Participants are provided a writing prompt, develop a response during the session, and share their completed responses with the group.

State of the Mississippi River @ Minnehaha Academy North, 3100 W River Parkway, 7-8pm. So, how is the Mississippi River? Can you swim in it? Is water pollution improving? Can you eat the fish you catch? What’s up with invasive carp? A public presentation on the “State of the River” will answer such questions and more. The talk, led by Longfellow resident Trevor Russell will be held at the Minnehaha Academy North Campus Chapel.
