Home improvement ideas at the Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour April 29-30
30th year of FREE, self-guided tour promoting neighborhoods and city living
Issued April 7, 2017 (Minneapolis and Saint Paul, MN) —
As the Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour marks its 30th year showing “real homes, real people, real ideas,” residents open their doors to show practical ideas for remodeling every room in the house, creative ways of finding or adding useful space, or building new to stay in the neighborhoods they love.
Fifty-two homes and special locations will be open for the free, self-guided tour Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 from 1-5 p.m. At many homes, contractors, architects, and other trades people as well as the homeowners are also available to talk with guests. Several locations will offer brief, organized topic talks or time-certain tours.
In addition to clever kitchens, baths, and suite additions in homes of many vintages, visitors can learn about apartment living in historic buildings, tour homes with net zero energy use, and see products so new they’re not available to consumers yet. There’s a studio atop garage, a metal garage, a factory-built home and a gorgeous Queen Anne.
The wide range of housing styles and stories is accompanied by special stops where visitors are welcome to use rest rooms and get refreshment while learning about the sites or helpful home information. There’s a recommended walking tour of part of downtown Saint Paul. These special features are called out on the tour’s website and guide.
To plan a free, self-guided tour, visitors can go to www.MSPHomeTour.com for searchable listings or a PDF of the Guide. Paper copies of the Guide are available at most metro area libraries.
The Minneapolis and Saint Paul Home Tour, a celebration of city living, is sponsored by both cities’ planning and economic development departments, and various corporate and non-profit sponsors. For information, call Margo Ashmore at 612-867-4874.
