Neighborhood Garage Sale 2017
Spring cleaning? Get your goodies priced and organized to take part in the Longfellow Neighborhood Garage Sale, the sales-social-event-of-the-season! (Register to have your sale listed on our Neighborhood Sale Map which will be widely advertised before the event.) Register by June 3.

Midtown Greenway Coalition Accepting Applications for Greenway Glow
The Midtown Greenway Coalition is now accepting applications for Greenway Glow. Participants are invited to propose a project or performance that along the Midtown Greenway. This is a 5.5 mile long corridor for non-motorized vehicles between the Mississippi and Chain of Lakes. The project/performance should be prepared to engage a broad public audience. Applications due Thursday, June 29. The Greenway Glow will be Saturday, July 29. To apply, click here.

A Century of Women Filmmakers: Daughters of Dust @ The Trylon, 3258 Minnehaha Ave, 7pm 9:15pm. (1991, DCP, 112m) dir Julie Dash w/Cora Lee Day, Alva Rogers, Barbarou. Touted by Beyoncé and director Ava Duvernay, Dash’s film has rightly found itself back in the spotlight. Set in 1902, Daughters of the Dust is a meditative look at a group of black Sea Islands women and their Gullah culture.

Creative Journaling – Weekly Sesh @ Junkett: Tossed & Found, 4049 Minnehaha Ave, 5:30-7pm. These weekly sessions are $5 each. Junkett will provide access to a broad variety of ethically-sourced (entirely secondhand) creative supplies & materials. Items will also be available to purchase and incorporate into your work.

Goth Prom Presents: Venus De Mars and All the Pretty Horses @ The Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge, 3010 Minnehaha, 9pm-2am / 21+ / $10. Arrive early this event will sell out! All the Pretty Horses are back with a new line up and the dark, aggressive, and powerful performance that Venus De Mars is famous for. Let’s see if sparks fly…with opening act Ficshe, your local dark electro-chanteuse. DJ Sets by: Angelica Ottavia, Apollolypstic, Necronancer, Nightstalker.

Kilt and Corset Night @ Merlin’s Rest Pub, 3601 E Lake St, All night! Get in the spirit of your heritage by wearing your Tartan. Or if the mood strikes, why not a corset? This gathering takes place every Friday!
 
Irish Session & Highland Pipes @ Merlin’s Rest Pub, 3601 E Lake St, 8:30pm. A traditional Irish music session lead by the finest musicians around with interludes by Highland pipers! If you play Irish music, you are welcome to join in! This is a very impromptu gathering that occurs most Fridays. However, some Fridays the crew may be otherwise engaged. Come early for a great spot!

IN.MiGRATiON @ Midtown Farmers Market, 2225 E Lake St, 9am-1pm, The iNMiGRATiON site-specific performance installation series combining live music, poetry, visual art, and movement to create an energized, immersive environment throughout the market space. Co-presented by Wavelets Creative, iNMiGRATiON’s live, spatial sound score will be performed by experimental music collective Sans Le Systeme, with live poetry cameos and the Free Range Orchestra & Choir roving throughout the space. SLS featuring JG Everest, Jacqueline Ultan, Truth Maze, Cesar Moran, Greg Schutte, Ben Clark, and more.

Tuesday, May 30

The Hub’s Women/Trans/Femme MTB Night @ The Hub Bike Co-op, 3020 Minnehaha Ave S, 5-9pm. The Hub and Surly Bikes are partnering for an informational and social night about MTBs for WTFs (women/trans/femme) and non-binary folks! Surly will be bringing some demo bikes, and plenty of information on how to choose and/or ride a MTB. We’ll have answers to those burning questions, such as: “What do ‘full sus’, ‘hardtail’, and ‘slacker headtube angle mean’?” and “How do I learn how to get air on my MTB?” Confirmed Surly demo bikes so far: Troll – XS – SM – MD – LG Karate Monkey 27.5 – XS – SM – MD – LG 

Wednesday, May 31

Merlins Rest Pub Quiz @ Merlin’s Rest Pub, 3601 E Lake St, 8:30pm 7:30. The Quizmaster is their own Minister of Culture Bill Watkins. His legendary quizzes will test your knowledge of subjects ranging from history to sport and everything else you can think of – plus a few things you probably can’t. Don’t worry, there are a few easy ones in there.  Bill is here to intrigue your curiosity, not make you feel stupid. They do not accept reservations for Pub Quiz, taking place every Wednesday. This event tends to fill up quickly, so arrive early to assure a seat!
