Riverview Corridor: Community Meetings Announced to Evaluate Six Remaining Alternatives

Ramsey County has announced that it will not pursue light rail as a mode of transit along a future transit route that would connect Downtown St. Paul with the Minneapolis- St. Paul Airport. According an article released by the Star Tribune July 13th, the advisory committee has eliminated 24 of the 30 options on the table as of last October.  The remaining six choices are to be the subject of a series of community meetings hosted  later this month and in early August, one of which will be held in Longfellow. The remaining 6 alternatives include “Building nothing and continuing current bus service, adding bus rapid transit that shares the road with other vehicle traffic (similar to the A line on Snelling Avenue now) or adding a ‘modern streetcar’ on one of four possible routes.” The Star Tribune article clarifies that “Those streetcars would run on tracks, but share the road with cars and be smaller than light rail.”

Residents and anyone interested in weighing in on the project are invited to attend any of the community meetings, which will be hosted by Ramsey County Railroad Authority staff. The community  meeting in Greater Longfellow will be held on Monday, August 7th, at 5-7pm at  Dowling Elementary School (3900 W River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55406).
