LoLa Art Crawl @ Longfellow Neighborhood, Saturday & Sunday, Sep 16 & 17 The League of Longfellow Artists (LoLa) Art Crawl showcases the diverse work of the artists/crafters/makers living and working in the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis. The 9th Annual LoLa Art Crawl connects the public with local artists at their studios, in their homes, and at local businesses to discover unique art from over one hundred creators. Keep an eye out for the official list of participating artists and their site locations in early September.

The Miami Dolphins’ Waterfest: LP Release & Tour Kickoff w/ The_Miami_Dolphins (Minneapolis, MN) @ Seward Community Café, 2129 E Franklin Ave. 7:56pm-12:22am.  Join us to celebrate the release of the 2nd LP, Water Your Waiting For, out officially on Sept. 8 on FPE Records. Performances will begin at 8:30pm with a 20-minute version of Terry Riley’s keyboard study, performed by IE. Following will be a cabaret of 8 acts from 9-10:30pm. At around 10:45pm, the Miami Dolphins will play a set comprised mostly of songs from their new LP, Water Your Waiting For. Following that will be light Italo disco music and dancing until 12:17am.
Be sure to stop by the Water Your Miami Dolphins booth where you can pay $2 to throw water balloons at the Miami Dolphin of your choice.
The cabaret will consist of the following performers:

Panel Discussion with the Artists of Code/Switch @ The White Page, 3400 Cedar Ave S. 7-9pm. FREEJohana Brubeck and Linda Moncada present the second installment of their Code/Switch programming. The event will consist of a panel discussion with the artists involved with the first Code/Switch event, an exhibition featuring only artists of color at Yeah Maybe Gallery last week. They invite fellow artists of color to come and join a conversation on what it means to work in the art scene in Minneapolis, and on how we can uplift each other as communities of color. All are invited to witness this dialogue, but a special invitation is extended towards any people of color struggling in predominantly white creative spaces.

Women’s Work Walking Tour, with History Player Eva Valesh w/ Mill City Times @ Mill City Museum, 704 S 2nd St. 10:30am-Noon. Join a costumed interpreter portraying labor writer, Eva Valesh, for a walking tour that highlights working conditions along the Minneapolis riverfront in the late 1880s. The guide will discuss jobs that were available to women in the late 19th and early 20th century, key events in women’s labor history in Minneapolis and the factories that Valesh exposed, including the North Star Woolen Mill that still stands two blocks from Mill City Museum. This tour includes about 1.5 miles of moderately paced walking on uneven surfaces. Please call ahead to make arrangements for guests with limited mobility.

These sessions will be bi-weekly geared toward two things:

This event tends to fill up quickly, so arrive early to assure a seat!

Slipknot: Day of the Gusano @ The Riverview, 3800 42nd Ave S. 7:15pm. Admission $15. “Day Of The Gusano” documents not only a historic Mexico City performance from Slipknot, but delves deeply into the lives of the band’s fans as well. This highly anticipated show captures the chaos, excitement and community that has been cultivated over the past 20+ years.

For everyone who has never read FABLES, or wants to revisit a time-tested favorite, we will be discussing FABLES, VOL. 1: LEGENDS IN EXILE for our September meeting.
