We meet at the bookstore on the second Saturday of every month from 9-11am.

ABOUT THE BOOK: “Inspired by Octavia Butler’s explorations of our human relationship to change, Emergent Strategy is radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help designed to shape the futures we want to live. Change is constant. The world is in a continual state of flux. It is a stream of ever-mutating, emergent patterns. Rather than steel ourselves against such change, this book invites us to feel, map, assess, and learn from the swirling patterns around us in order to better understand and influence them as they happen. This is a resolutely materialist “spirituality” based equally on science and science fiction, a visionary incantation to transform that which ultimately transforms us.”

Dan Rein & Friends CD Release @ The Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge, 3010 Minnehaha Ave • 21+ :: 6pm, Social Hour – Appetizers from Gandhi Mahal :: 7pm, Kiesling, Draper & Beckmen :: 8pm, Dan Rein & Friends :: $12 Advance /15 Day of Show • KFAI – 90.3 FM Minneapolis – 106.7 FM St. Paul & The Hook & Ladder Theater presents Dan Rein CD Release Concert “Just One Breath” with guests Liz Draper, Mikkel Beckmen, Andy McCormick, and Adam Kiesling Sunday, December 10 at The Hook and Ladder Lounge The Hook & Ladder Theater is excited to announced the “Just One Breath” CD release from Twin City world-music composer Dan Rein.

Dan Rein sings the poetry of Omar Khyyam in Persian and English, with music on dutar, washboard, banjo, musical saw and upright bass. For 25 years Dan has been studying, playing and promoting Iranian music in Minneapolis/St. Paul. About 15 years ago a two string instrument from eastern Iran came into his life, one with which he had a long fascination…the dutar. Musically he began to create something new and of his own based on his knowledge of Iranian traditional music. Using the poetry of Omar Khayyam, ideas and passions merged, grew, separated, changed, merged, and reemerged ultimately coalescing into this exciting new recording. Omar Khayyam, the poet, philosopher, and scientist, died almost on thousand years ago. He questioned God, Religion, Sufism, and the status quo of life. His thoughts were clear and independent, seeking the tap root of life, beyond any prescribed dogma. His message has lived through various time periods and is still relevant to our time and comes to life once more with the aid of Dan’s original score. Dan Rein has also been the host of Century Song for over 20 years. He brings a world view of tradition music from all corners of the globe. Live concerts, interviews, and music from forgotten peoples and civilizations. Joining Dan on stage for this performance will be; Mikkel Beckmen on washboard (Brass Kings, Corpse Reviver, Charlie Parr), Liz Draper on bass fiddle (Ookie Dookie Brothers, Dumpy Jug Bumpers), Andy McCormick on saw (Dreamland Faces), and Adam Kiesling on fretless banjo (Corpse Reviver, Pert Near Sandstone, Mill City Grinders).Dan Rein CD Release at The Hook and Ladder Theater
